A key component in TIGON's hybrid microgrid innovations is the solid-state transformer (SST), and our work in this area was presented at the recent PCIM event in Germany
Two project partners – CIRCE and PREMO – participated in this international power electronics event which took place this year in Nuremburg. Each had their own booth and showcased some of the innovations from TIGON and similar projects.
Technical coordinator Jesús Muñoz said about PCIM: “This event offers us direct access to manufacturers and designers of power converters and to the key stakeholder who use them in their applications. We can also engage with the academic community, thus talk with research and industry at the same time“.
Specifically, the team presented Solutions about the implementation of hybrid grids and high-efficiency power converters based on SiC for distributed energy resources applications and a sample of TIGON medium frequency transformer for the modules of the SST. A workshop was also held to engage with stakeholders about TIGON.
In addition, the partners presented a poster at the event’s academic session, describing the design of the SST and the characteristics of the project’s Spanish demo site managed by the partner CEDER.
Among delegates who came to the booths and presentation, the main topics of interest on SST bottlenecks and development, the future role of hybrid microgrids, and protection schemes for AC/DC microgrids.
